(Joplin, MO) – Reading is fundamental to learning, and reading aloud is the best way to utilize multiple parts of your brain and boost memory too. Under the pen name Dr. Seuss, Theodor Geisel wrote, “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” Freeman Health System leaders did just that during a reading event on Thursday, March 3.
Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer Paula Baker along with Freeman Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Baker and Freeman Vice President of Medical Education Dr. Rob McNab demonstrated the joy and importance of reading as they shared books written by Dr. Seuss with preschool students at Joplin Early Childhood. They were joined by the Cat in the Hat, a popular Dr. Seuss character who appears regularly in programming on Ozarks Public Television’s PBS Kids.
Nearly 150 Joplin early childhood preschool students attended the reading event. Stories shared included Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now! read by Freeman Health System President and Chief Executive Officer Paula Baker, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? read by Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Baker, and The Sneetches read by Vice President of Medical Education Dr. Rob McNab.
Students were given treats from Freeman and puzzles from Ozarks Public Television.
