Downtown Joplin Alliance and Partners to Hold Ribbon Cutting for Art: Outside the Box

Downtown Joplin Alliance, in conjunction with the City of Joplin, Spiva Center for the Arts and Joplin Arts District, invites the community to attend a ribbon cutting to celebrate
the installation of the Art: Outside the Box electric box project. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for November 11 at 4:30pm and will be held in front of the downtown.gallery wall on the northwest corner of 6 and Main Streets (across from City Hall).

As part of Art: Outside the Box, artists from around the region submitted original designs for a public art initiative to transform more than two dozen electrical utility boxes throughout Downtown Joplin into vibrant works of art.

Selected designs have been professionally reproduced as vinyl wraps and installed on utility boxes throughout Downtown, adding color, creativity, and a stronger sense of place to everyday infrastructure.

This project celebrates the power of art to energize public spaces, reflect the spirit of our community, and create unexpected moments of visual interest throughout the city.

A panel of judges decided which artworks would be reproduced and also selected the Best in Exhibit winners, where cash prizes totaling $2,000 will be presented in two categories: Youth: Ages 17 and under and Adult: Ages 18 and over. These winners will be announced during the ribbon cutting.

More information on the artists can be found here.

The 2026 Art: Outside the Box prizes are made possible by Liberty and Visit Joplin.
