Joplin Public Library to Host Author Visit with Regina Jennings

(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library (JPL) is excited to announce an upcoming author visit with award-winning storyteller Regina Jennings. This event will take place on December 9, 2021, at 6:00 pm, and will include a presentation and book signing. The event is free and open to the public

Her presentation will focus on the life and legacy of Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton agent, and the inspiration for Jennings’s popular Joplin Chronicles book series. She will also talk about her new release, Proposing Mischief, and Joplin’s Crystal Cave — a prominent feature in the story. Afterward, at 7:00 pm, Jennings will sign books and greet readers. Copies of her books will be available for purchase at the event.

Jennings is best known for creating historical fiction novels that contain a hint of romance, and has most recently created a series set in Joplin, Missouri. This series, The Joplin Chronicles, is set at the end of the 19th century and includes real Joplin history alongside Jennings’s trademark wit, adventure, and romance.

While Jennings has written several novels, including one that was a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award, she says this particular series is close to her heart. “Writing fiction set in Joplin is an author’s dream because Joplinites have done such a spectacular job preserving their history and architecture,” she said. “They have a real sense of their place in the world and why their stories are important. That makes research richly rewarding, and Joplin’s unique character translates well on the page.”

A Publishers Weekly starred review of Courting Misfortune announces, “Jennings introduces readers to the rough and tumble town of Joplin, Mo., in this fun inspirational adventure set in 1898. . . . Full of colorful characters and unexpected twists, Jennings’s entertaining story is her best yet.”

Regina Jennings is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in English and a minor in history. Regina has worked at the Mustang News and at First Baptist Church of Mustang, along with time at the Oklahoma National Stockyards and various livestock shows. She lives outside of Oklahoma City with her husband and four children.
