(Joplin, MO) – To celebrate the department’s 50 years at Missouri Southern State University, the Environment Health and Safety program is hosting a photography competition.

The theme for the contest is “Beauty in Nature.” Contestants can submit photos promoting the beauty of nature to inspire others to conserve and protect wildlife.

“Missouri Southern has been in support of environmental health ever since the government passed their environmental acts in the ‘70s,” said Dr. Teresa Boman, associate professor of biology and director of the environmental health and safety program. “We’ve even received accreditation from the Environment Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council, one of just 28 other colleges to do so.”

Submissions are open to all students, faculty, and staff, with up to three entries per person.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, December 16. Finalists will be showcased for voting in Reynolds Hall during the Spring 2023 semester. Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 22, 2023, after the keynote speaker during the department’s annual Earth Day celebration. The first-place winner will receive a cash prize.
