(Neosho, MO) – Freeman Health System officials announced earlier this month they are investing $1.2 million into the future health needs of Neosho and rural Newton County residents.
A new 4,266-square-foot addition to Freeman Neosho Physician Group building, located across from Freeman Neosho Hospital, is now underway. The expanded office building will open to the public in November.
“In our quest to continually improve services and facilities, Freeman Health System is investing in the future of healthcare for the people of Neosho and beyond,” said Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer Paula Baker.
The new addition will increase clinic and office space, including the addition of 14 exam rooms to the existing physician building located at 336 S. Jefferson Street, which will undergo extensive renovation as well.
“On top of much needed clinic space, this expansion also supports the Family Medicine Residency that Freeman runs in affiliation with Kansas City University of Medicine,” Baker said. “KCU-Joplin acknowledges Freeman Health System as its academic center, and we’re proud to build on our tradition of physician-education here in Neosho.”
The Family Medicine Residency Clinic, now in its second year, adds two new resident physicians each year for three-year clinical stints. Typically, these doctors in training develop skills in laboratory work, medical procedures and patient care. The program’s first two residents, Dr. Omar Rehman and Dr. Terrance Kelly, began accepting patients at the clinic in 2022. Last month, Dr. Brandyce Elia and Dr. Robert Morris joined the team. Two more doctors will come aboard next July.
“Freeman Neosho Hospital and Physician’s Group are thrilled to serve as the rural tract location for Kansas City University’s Family Medicine Residency Clinic,” said Renee Denton, Freeman Neosho Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer. “It is infrequent that a full residency clinic is available to a rural location, so to have this clinic available in Neosho will be extremely beneficial and increase access to medical care right here at home.”
The Neosho-based residency clinic provides care for the entire family through every stage of life.
