City Manager of City of Joplin Provides Insight into Budget for Fiscal Year 2025–2026

City Manager of the City of Joplin, Nick Edwards, has published his Budget Message for the coming fiscal year (which runs from November 1 through October 31). You can read the message, which summarizes and introduces the proposed budget for the coming year, here.

The City Manager is introducing the proposed budget to the City Council during a work session on Monday, August 11, and further public hearings regarding the budget will be coming as we continue through the budgeting process. The first will be at the August 18, 2025, City Council meeting, which begins at 6:00 pm and will be held in Council Chambers on the fifth floor of City Hall.

The budget serves many purposes: It is a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications tool. It lays out the projects for the year ahead and helps the community understand how much money is being spent to achieve the City’s goals.

The Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 will be posted online next week, and starting Monday, August 18, the public will be able to view it in the reference section of the Joplin Public Library, 1901 East 20th Street.

Joplin City Council’s Budget Work Sessions are set for Monday through Wednesday, September 22–24, and citizens are encouraged to attend. Each session will begin at 5:45 pm and be held in Council Chambers. The agendas for these meetings will be posted near these dates. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and/or provide comments regarding the City budget at the work sessions.

In an effort to build trust, the City welcomes citizens to these meetings as part of a transparent and collaborative budget process. If unable to attend the meetings, they will be live-streamed on the City Council’s page on Joplin’s website. These sessions can also be viewed on the website after the meeting dates.
