Pro Musica Joplin Presents the Brubeck Brothers Quartet at Downtown Joplin’s Third Thursday

(Joplin, MO)Pro Musica, the region’s presenter of leading national and international classical chamber music and jazz, will welcome the Brubeck Brothers Quartet to Joplin on June 17.

Even through the pandemic, Pro Musica has maintained a robust season: launching its Overtures of Hope COVID-responsiveness initiative as well as a successful digital partnership with the renowned Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society. Pro Musica has recently returned to live programming, featuring the Invoke Quartet in April and the Boston Brass in May.

This week Pro Musica welcomes audiences to Downtown Joplin’s Third Thursday to enjoy a dynamic performance by the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.

Chris and Dan Brubeck, sons of the renowned pianist and composer Dave Brubeck, continue the jazz legacy of their father while bringing their own inventive, engaging style to enchant audiences old and new. The Brubeck Brothers last performed in Joplin in 2018.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Brubeck Brothers back to Joplin,” said Executive Director Emlyn Johnson. “Partnering with Third Thursday gives the band an opportunity to reconnect with their Joplin fans and engage with new listeners, as well.”

The Brubeck Brothers concert will take place June 17 at 6:30 pm at the corner of 6th and Main, near Joplin City Hall. The band will play two 1-hour sets combining jazz classics with new original music.

About the Brubeck Brothers Quartet:

Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966—nearly a half century ago. They’ve subsequently played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. With Dan and Chris as the foundation, guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb, complete this dynamic quartet. They perform at concert series, colleges, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe including the Newport, Detroit, Montreal, Playboy/Hollywood Bowl, and Monterey Jazz Festivals. The Quartet’s last cd, LifeTimes was a hit on the Jazz Week radio chart where it made the Top Ten list as one of the most played jazz recordings of the year.
