(Joplin, MO) – Pro Musica Joplin, the 41-year-old local presenter of national and international chamber ensembles via free concerts, education and outreach has announced a reimagined lineup of three digital concerts and three outdoor events to conclude its 2020-2021 season.
Pro Musica suspended public concerts earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the organization mounted Overtures of Hope, a temporary initiative uplifting healthcare professionals and marginalized communities impacted by the pandemic.
Now, Executive Director Jay Gilman says, “We’re thrilled to present six incredible offerings this winter and spring. While the formats may be novel for patrons, the level of musical excellence will be familiar.”
Three digital concerts will stream on-demand for one week each via Pro Musica’s website. Each concert requires a free reservation to receive a private viewing link. Presented in partnership with the renowned Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, digital concerts include:
- Artist series featuring clarinetist Anthony McGill (February 11 to February 18) with works by Messiaen, Poulenc, and Brahms. Hailed by the New York Times for his “trademark brilliance and penetrating sound,” McGill is the principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic.
- Artist Series featuring pianist Gloria Chien (February 25 to March 4) with works by Field, Liszt, and Mendelssohn. Taiwanese-born, US-based, Ms. Chien is a Steinway Artist whose deeply impressive career includes her orchestral debut at just 16 years old with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- Intimate Bach (March 18 to March 25) features three J.S. Bach compositions rendered by an impressive lineup, including harpsichordist Kenneth Weiss, accordionist Luka Juhart, baritone Ryan Speedo Green, the Orion String Quartet, and more.
There will also be three outdoor performances with socially distanced seating that will close out the 2020 to 2021 Season:
- Invoke Quartet (Thursday, April 8) of Austin, Texas vividly melds chamber music with bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Winners of numerous chamber awards, they’ve performed at Carnegie Hall with the U.S. Army Field Band and many more.
- Boston Brass (Thursday May 27) have toured all 50 states and 30 countries over the last three decades. With an astonishingly diverse repertoire, the ensemble bridges the ocean of classical formality to delight audiences with great music and boisterous fun.
- The Brubeck Brothers Quartet (Thursday, June 17) played for years with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, while pioneering their own impressive reputation on the jazz circuit across North America and Europe, and with chamber groups such as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. This performance is Pro Musica’s annual ticketed jazz concert, raising funds for the organization’s general operations.
