Plans for one of downtown’s oldest parking garages will be the subject of an upcoming public meeting at Joplin City Hall.
The City of Joplin will host a meeting to discuss the parking garage at 6th Street and Virginia Avenue is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 22. The meeting will be held in the Study on the 5th floor of City Hall.
The meeting is intended to inform stakeholders and affected citizens about the City’s plans for the 6th and Virginia Parking Garage Project, including the timeline to advertise the project for bids in mid-November. The meeting will also be a Q-and-A to allow City officials and the consultant the opportunity to answer questions and address any concerns about the upcoming work.
The parking garage was constructed in the 1960s, and over time has developed issues such as structural and drainage deficiencies. The proposed rehabilitation project would make improvements to the existing parking deck, repairs to the supporting structural components, and improvements to the associated storm sewer infrastructure. The work is intended to improve the overall condition of the facility and extend its useful service life. If approved, the project is estimated to take approximately nine months.
