(Joplin, MO) – The wait is finally over! The Schroeder Family Exploreum is thrilled to invite the community to celebrate the Grand Opening of its highly anticipated North Wing on June 4 with a full weekend of discovery, excitement, and family-friendly fun.
After months of anticipation and preparation, the Exploreum is officially opening the doors to a brand-new space designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM).
Guests of all ages are invited to experience interactive exhibits, engaging activities, and special opportunities to meet the team behind the Exploreum. The Grand Opening Weekend will showcase everything the new North Wing has to offer while creating unforgettable experiences for families throughout the region.

“Opening the North Wing marks an exciting new chapter for the Exploreum and for our community,” said Executive Director Neely Myers. “We’ve created a space where imagination, learning, and exploration come together, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone inside.”
As part of the celebration weekend, the Exploreum will also host a special Mascot Name Reveal Event — a high-energy celebration that invites the community to help officially name the Exploreum’s beloved new mascot.
After weeks of creativity, excitement, and community participation, the top 3 mascot names have been chosen from a field of over 60 submissions:
- Helix
- Nano
- Nova
Community voting officially begins Monday the 18th of May, giving supporters the chance to choose the name that best represents the spirit of curiosity, innovation, and discovery at the heart of the Exploreum experience.
The winning name will be unveiled during a lively reveal celebration featuring music, surprises, and countdown excitement as the mascot officially takes its place in Exploreum history.
Whether guests participated in the naming process or are discovering the mascot for the first time, the reveal on Saturday, June 6th at Noon promises to be a memorable moment filled with joy, imagination, and community spirit.
