Joplin Fire Department Alerts Public to Possible Scam

The Joplin Fire Department has become aware of and is joining area fire departments in warning the public about a possible scam. An individual is trying to raise funds by selling advertising space in a calendar, and has falsely told some members of the Joplin community that the funds raised are for the Joplin Fire Department. The individual has tried to solicit donations from area businesses. The individual is associated with an organization called “Fire Safety Programs” and may be working with another area fire agency, but is not raising funds for the Joplin Fire Department. This person also has used the names of Joplin Fire officials in his requests for funding from businesses and individuals.

The Joplin Fire Department is NOT hosting any fundraiser, selling any calendars or other products, nor are associated with Fire Safety Programs which is soliciting funds in this manner.

Businesses and individuals should not provide any financial information from their personal or business accounts to those soliciting in this manner. JFD is not participating in these fundraising efforts and advises citizens not to engage with such fundraisers or scammers.

The Joplin Fire Department has also posted a message on its Facebook page explaining this situation to help alert the public.
