(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) invites the community to “Be a Hero” at April’s Third Thursday event on April 18, 2024. Join DJA’s sponsors, Mid-America RV and The Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm to celebrate all the ways you can be a hero for someone.
Partnering with The Children’s Center are a host of local organizations, including The Community Clinic of Southwest Missouri, Ozark Center, FosterAdopt Connect, JasCo Children’s Division, Higher Power Garage, Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri, Access Family Care (who will be providing free vaccines), and Lafayette House.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The community of Joplin has placed pinwheels on display all throughout the city to show support for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention, as it represents the happy and healthy childhood every child deserves.
The evening’s event will also include:
- Live music from Paul Blakely; Here, Now; Drake May; and Vagabond Grove.
- Nick Kubicek with Mond Su Dom Tai karate studio giving a free demonstration at The Children’s Center booth.
- The Guardians of SWMO will be set up in full superhero costume and available for photos.
- More than 100 vendors, including over 20 food trucks and food booths.
- Patio and on-street dining on the 100, 200, 500, and 600 blocks.
- A beer garden and disc golf outside of Chaos Brewing Co.
- A vintage car cruise on the 100 block.
- Artisan market on the 500 block.
- A bounce house for kids.
- A live artist demonstration at the new Keystone Gallery at 4th and Main Streets.
DJA encourages all attendees to wear their superhero outfits and stroll around downtown!
