All Together Now, Summer Reading Starts This Month
It’s time to come “All Together Now” for the summer reading program at Joplin Public Library! Starting Tuesday, May 30, you can participate in our free and fun Summer Reading Program. Pick up your gameboard at the Library or register online. Participants can track the time they spend reading or listening to their favorite books, e-books, and graphic novels to complete their gameboard levels and win prizes.
Along with reading and prizes, the Library will host plenty of fun events for all ages this summer. Follow our calendar online for a complete list of programs. This year’s theme is All Together Now, and we’ll spend the summer celebrating collaboration, kindness, unity, and much more.
Resource Spotlight: Library of Things
The Library of Things is a new collection of non-traditional materials, including tools, games, kitchen items, electronics, and more, that are all available to check out for free with a library card!
Started by a generous patrol donation, JPL will be launching the Library of Things with a Meet the Things event on Thursday, May 11 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. The public is invited to browse the collection, ask questions about the program, and check out a Thing for the very first time!
If you’re unable to attend the Meet the Things event, you can always check out the full collection online. Things placed on hold will not be available until after the event on May 11.
May the 4th Be With You at JPL
Are you all about the Canon or have you been binge-watching The Mandalorian? Maybe you’re a reader, a movie buff, or you just love theme days! No matter which path to entertainment you choose, we’ve got something for everyone!
Come join us as we celebrate all things Star Wars on May 4. Adults, teens and children all welcome. Participants can dress up, take a photo at the photo station, explore some Star Wars resources (books, movies, etc), and make Star Wars themed earrings or keychains in the Makerspace (appointments available here).
We’ll also have a Jedi Lost Texts scavenger hunt for all ages, a Jedi Training Course for kids, and more! End the day with an interactive showing of Star Wars: A New Hope.
