(Joplin, MO) – On Saturday, February 18, during market hours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Youth Volunteer Corps, under the guidance of Master Gardener Eric Osen, will be constructing on 8’x12′ PVC hoop-style greenhouse in the community gardens at the Joplin Empire Market. This will provide hands-on experience for the children involved, though community members are invited to attend and ask questions as well.
Additional volunteers will be conducting a pre-spring cleaning of the garden, including renovation of existing raised garden beds. This has been made possible by a donation of soil from Scott’s Miracle Grow. Eric Osen will be on hand throughout the day to guide the projects and to answer gardening and greenhouse questions from all who attend.
The greenhouse constructed on Saturday will be given away as part of the Empire Market’s 5th Birthday Bash celebration on April 29.
This is also a great time to snag one of the Market’s Community Garden beds for you to do your own planting this year!
