(Joplin, MO) – The Medical Loan Closet of Joplin is celebrating a new location at 2195 Coyote Drive in Joplin, Missouri, with a Ribbon Cutting and Open House inviting community members to discover how donated medical equipment is helping individuals and families throughout the region.
The event will allow visitors to tour the new space, learn about the organization’s services, and see firsthand how community donations are making a difference in the lives of individuals in the Joplin community.
The Medical Loan Closet of Joplin receives gifted medical equipment and redistributes the used medical equipment at no charge, ensuring individuals have access to the safety, mobility, and support needed to heal and thrive. By giving medical equipment a second life, the organization helps remove financial barriers for families while making essential resources available to those who need them.
“Our mission is about making sure people have access to the equipment they need when they need it,” said Nicole Watson, RN, Founder & Executive Director. “Medical equipment can make a tremendous difference in someone’s recovery, independence, and quality of life. We are excited about our new location and the opportunity to continue serving our community.”
The impact of the Medical Loan Closet extends beyond providing equipment. For individuals recovering at home, a wheelchair, walker, hospital bed, or bathroom safety aid can help make everyday activities safer and more manageable. For families facing unexpected medical expenses, receiving equipment at no cost can provide meaningful relief during an already challenging time. Over 5,000 families are served annually, and over 18,000 pieces of medical equipment have been redistributed. Its inventory includes wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, hospital beds, crutches, bathroom safety equipment, and other patient-care essentials.
One community member’s recovery story illustrates the difference access to equipment can make. Following a stroke that affected mobility, a client received a sit-to-stand device and transfer board through the Medical Loan Closet. Over the following weeks, the individual progressed to using a walker and eventually a cane, regaining the ability to transfer independently, access the shower, and begin cooking again.
Stories like these reflect the organization’s commitment to helping individuals move forward with greater independence and dignity.
The Medical Loan Closet also relies on the generosity of community members who donate unused medical equipment, volunteer their time, and provide financial support. Donated equipment is given a second life, helping another individual or family navigate recovery and everyday care.
