(Joplin, MO) – South Middle School Principal Jacob Williams has been named the Southwest Missouri Middle School Principal of the Year by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.

Williams has served as head principal at South since 2021. He began his career with Joplin Schools in 2011 as a physical education teacher and coach at East and North Middle Schools before moving to Joplin High School to teach. He later served two years as the district’s Middle School Athletic Director before transitioning into administration as an Assistant Principal at Joplin High School.

“We’re proud of Mr. Williams and the work he puts in every day with his staff to make school a great experience for students and their families,” said Joplin Schools superintendent Dr. Kerry Sachetta. “He’s intentional about supporting strong teams and effective strategies, which provides a great foundation for growth in education. We’re thankful for his impact in Joplin.”

Williams was recognized at a back-to-school morning assembly earlier today, and was joined by his family and district administrators for the celebration.

“I’m truly humbled by this honor,” Mr. Williams shared. “If there’s anything I’ve done to deserve recognition like this, the credit belongs to the incredible people I get to work with every day at South and across Joplin Schools. I’m grateful for those who have supported me through all that comes with being an educator and a leader. It is a privilege to work alongside such talented, compassionate, and dedicated educators.”
