(Joplin, MO) – The tenth annual Joplin Arts Fest will be held on Friday, September 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday, September 21 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex (212 W. 7th Street, Joplin, MO 64801.
The festival will feature 40 artists, both local and further afield. Disciplines featured include painting, print making, jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture, woodworking, and more! Artists can be found outside on the Leggett & Platt Green.
Nine live performances, both music and dance, will be held on the stage to the north of the Leggett & Platt Green. Visitors can enjoy marimba, folk, rock and roll, jazz, ballet, indie rock, and big band music. Live performing arts at the festival are made possible by Connect2Culture.
Food will be available outside on the east side of the facility. Offerings will include BBQ, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, cinnamon rolls, and local coffee. Bring a picnic blanket and sit on the Green to eat, or use one of the provided tables. An outdoor bar will serve wine, beer, and mimosas.
Other activities include live art demonstrations; an art station where visitors of all ages are invited to make foam block print t-shirts and bandanas with Spiva Center for the Arts (free of charge due to generous underwriters); and a Joplin Junior Arts Fest section, sponsored by Southwest Missouri Bank, on the southern section of the green, which is open to artists from kindergarten through 12th grade. Palen Music will be hosting an Instrument Petting Zoo where kids of all ages can get some hands-on experience with musical instruments of all types! The first 1,000 visitors to the festival receive a commemorative Joplin Arts Fest Field Guide, designed to inspire interactive creativity all year round.
Joplin Arts Fest is a collaborative partnership between Connect2Culture, Downtown Joplin Alliance, Post Art Library, and Spiva Center for the Arts.
