Joplin Public Library is excited to announce the Joplin Reads Together book selection for 2024, The Henna Artist, by Alka Joshi. In its second year, Joplin Reads Together is a community focused, month-long event centered upon one adult book. It includes accompanying programs during the month of April, ending with a visit from the author on April 23.
Joplin Reads Together aims to increase awareness of the Library and its services, provide a shared experience, promote reading, and foster connection to local organizations. Community members can participate by reading the book, contributing to the Joplin Reads Together group on Facebook, and joining programs offered throughout the month of April.
“We are looking forward to the second year of Joplin Reads Together, and to share the selected title with the community”, stated Sarah Turner-Hill, Adult Programming Coordinator for Joplin Public Library. “It’s been really encouraging receiving excited inquiries about this year’s title from Library patrons that participated last year. I hope readers find interest in The Henna Artist and enjoy the accompanying programs in April. Thank you to our community partners: Friends of the Joplin Public Library, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Southern State University’s George A Spiva Library, and the Post Art Library.”
Joplin Public Library has purchased additional copies of the book in physical, ebook, and audiobook form, to ensure interested patrons have the opportunity to participate. Books will also be available for purchase at the Library from the Friends of the Joplin Public Library, starting March 1.
