City of Joplin to Hold Public Meeting About Widening Connecticut Avenue on October 26

The City of Joplin will soon begin construction on the next and final phase of the Connecticut Widening Program. Work will focus on the area from 32nd Street to the I-44 Bridge. The design consists of reconstruction and widening of Connecticut Avenue to a five-lane roadway with curb and gutter, including a dual-use, ten-foot-wide sidewalk/bike trail on the west side of the roadway and a six-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side of the roadway.

An open house public meeting with City engineers and representatives of D&E Plumbing and Heating Inc., the construction contractor for this project, is set for 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2616 Connecticut Avenue. Citizens may drop by any time during these hours to view the final plans and ask questions about the upcoming construction project.

This project was included in the 3/8 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax approved by voters in August 2014.

If unable to attend the meeting and would like to discuss the project, please contact Rob Beachner at 417.624.0820, ext. 1543 or rbeachne@joplinmo.org or Dan Johnson at ext. 1530 or johnso1@joplinmo.org.
