(Joplin, MO) – The holiday season is right around the corner, and Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) is excited to announce the following events to help everyone get into the spirit of the season!
Light Up the Park
Thursday, November 16 | 2:00 to 6:00 pm | Spiva Park, 4th and Main Streets
Join DJA and volunteers to help light up Spiva Park brighter than ever before! Expect to hang some lights and sip some hot chocolate.
Holiday Market at Empire
Each Saturday from November 18 to December 23 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each week | Empire Market, 931 E. 4th Street
The Empire Market will kick off its 6th Annual Holiday Market season on Saturday, November 18. Expect all the great food, beverage, and produce options you’re used to with even more locally made artisan goods, perfect for gift-giving. Live music, gift wrapping, and a visit from Santa will also be part of the fun!
Downtown Holiday Decorating Contest
From Tuesday, November 21 to Friday, December 15 | Decorations can be viewed in various businesses downtown.
The theme of this year’s Holiday Decorating Contest is Winter Wonderland! Downtown businesses have until November 15 to register to be included in the online voting, which begins on Saturday, November 21 to coincide with the lighting of the tree at City Hall. The contest ends on Friday, December 15.
The public will vote for their favorites in these categories:
- Best Use of Theme (Winter Wonderland)
- Best Use of Lights
- Most Creative
The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 19 in the lobby of City Hall.
Fall in Love with Local/Small Business Saturday
Saturday, November 25 | All day
Small Business Saturday is a great time to kick off a season of shopping local and shopping small for all your holiday needs! This year, help promote the spirit by participating in Fall in Love with Local, DJA’s campaign to bring awareness to all the great products and services that are available in the downtown district. Expect exclusive merch (including a presale for luxe mystery bags) and a Love Local Stroll on the day itself. More details to come!
Holiday WineShare at Frisco Station Lofts
Friday, December 1 | 6:00 to 8:00 pm | Frisco Station Lofts, 601 S. Main Street
Enjoy sharing wine and conversation with friends new and old at December’s First Friday WineShare, held in the beautifully renovated lobby of the Frisco Station Lofts! Bring a bottle of wine or your favorite craft beer to share. Adults 21+ only, please.
Tinsel & Tidings Christmas Eve-Eve Market
Saturday, December 23 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm | Empire Market, 931 E. 4th Street
Help the Empire Market close out the 2023 season and get all those last-minute gifts and food for your holiday table! The market will be closed the following Saturday, December 30 and will be back in business for 2024 on Saturday, January 6.
Beyond the offerings from Downtown Joplin Alliance, downtown will also host a holiday season full of parades, boutique open houses, special food offerings, concerts, and much more!
