Back to School with Joplin Public Library

As children, teens, and teachers head back to school, Joplin Public Library (JPL) wants to remind you of the great resources that JPL has to offer students and their families. Check out the links below to learn more about each resource, or to start using them today!

Virtual Resources

These include lesson plans, virtual field trips, worksheets, databases, and other digital resources for subjects like art, language, social studies, math, government, science, health, and much more! See a full list of them here.

Creativebug

Art and craft video classes for adults and kids, taught by recognized design experts and artists. Topics include fiber and paper arts, jewelry making, sewing and quilting, food, home- the list goes on! Create a free account using your JPL card and enjoy unlimited access to instructional videos, patterns and more! Classes are available for all skill levels, and you can learn a craft at your own pace. New content is added weekly, and you can see it all here.

Databases for Education

Databases focused on education and testing, such as language learning, computer skills, practice tests, professional development and more. You can see it all here.

Kanopy

This streaming service has movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films, and educational videos and offers a wide variety of content with no waiting! This includes K–12 lessons on a variety of subjects, and extensive lessons on an array of topics offered through The Great Courses, which are taught by experts in their fields. Find them all here.

Meeting & Study Rooms

The Library offers Meeting Rooms, which are available free of charge to any nonprofit organizations engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, or charitable activities. They may be reserved up to six months in advance with a limit of 12 reservations per calendar year.

Study Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to four hours per day per user.

Computer Center

The Library has 27 public-use computers, two printers with low cost prints and wireless printing available, and a new copy machine! You can also use the Library for scanning and faxing.

For the computer lab, library card holding users are provided four hours of computer time for free. Guest users are provided one hour free of charge with additional hours available for purchase at $1 per hour, up to a total of four hours. WiFi is available at the Library 24/7. The Makerspace

The Library’s Makerspace is a place where users may create, explore, tinker, and discover using a variety of tools and materials that they may not have access to otherwise, including:

  • Epilog Zing Laser Cutter
  • Ultimaker3 3D Printer
  • Computers & Software (Adobe Creative Suite, Garage Band, iMovie, etc.)
  • Digital Media Conversion
  • Audio/Visual Equipment
  • Button Maker
  • Sewing Machine
  • Other crafting items

Appointments must be made to use the Epilog Zing Laser Cutter, but all the other equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis during during open hours or by appointment. Find the Makerspace hours and information on all the available equipment here.
