City of Joplin Works to Inventory Trees in City Parks with Funding from MDC Community Forestry Grant

(Joplin, MO) – The City of Joplin’s Parks and Recreation Department is updating an existing inventory of trees in City Parks. This work along with an assessment of the structural risks of the trees is made possible through a Missouri Department of Conservation Community Forestry grant.

Currently, contractors are inventorying and assessing trees in nine City Parks. The updated information will be used to make decisions about the care of the trees that benefit the citizens of Joplin. This grant is part of the MDC Community Conservation Program

“The City of Joplin has partnered with MDC throughout the years on various projects,” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. “They bring great resources to us and our community. We appreciate all that they do to help us with our urban forests.”

MDC’s Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas.
