Downtown Joplin Alliance to Host April’s Third Thursday Event, “Be a Hero!”

(Joplin, MO) – Be a hero at the Downtown Joplin Alliance’s April Third Thursday event! The Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri is sponsoring this month and encouraging visitors to celebrate all the ways you can be a hero for someone. Partnering with them are a host of local organizations including The Alliance of Southwest Missouri, SWMO Regional Resources Unit, Children’s Division, Jasper County CASA, FosterAdopt Connect, Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri, and Lafayette House!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Children’s Center will be making lanterns to shine the light on Child Abuse Prevention Awareness. The community of Joplin has placed pinwheels on display all throughout the city to show support for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention, as it represents the happy and healthy childhood every child deserves.

The evening’s events include

  • Live Music from Paul Blakely at 5:30p and The Bonnie Situation & Dahlia Neale at 7:15 pm
  • The Alliance of Southwest Missouri will have superhero stickers, kids craft booklets, and a make-your own-superhero-mask station 
  • Over 100 vendors, including more than 25 food trucks and food booths 
  • Patio and on street dining 
  • Vintage car cruise on the 100 block 
  • Artisan market on the 500 block 
  • Free COVID vaccines and bivalent booster shots provided by the City of Joplin Health Department (available inside of City Hall)
  • Selfie photo booth provided by Hip Hip Array 

Downtown Joplin Alliance encourages all attendees to wear their superhero outfits to stroll around downtown
