Joplin Public Library Partners with Missouri Southern State University and Post Art Library for Joplin Reads Together Events

(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library is happy to offer “Exploring Swedish Culture,” a one-time informational program in collaboration with Missouri Southern State University’s (MSSU) Spiva Library. The program will consist of two MSSU professors, Dr. Amber Mintert, Associate Professor of Art & Design, and Dr. Rebecca Shriver, Assistant Professor of History, presenting on Sweden and its rich culture. The event will take place on Thursday, April 6 at 5:30 pm in the Joplin Public Library’s community room, and is open to all adults who are 18 years or older.

This program offering is in conjunction with Joplin Public Library’s first community read, Joplin Reads Together. The Library is hosting a variety of programs through the month of April related to the 2023 book choice, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. All programs are free, no library card or registration required, and can still be enjoyed without having participated in the community read program. Visit the Joplin Public Library’s website for more information.

Following the “Exploring Swedish Culture” program, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, the Post Art Library, a Joplin Reads Together partner, will host the opening reception for their community-based art exhibit entitled Lost & Found: Remarkably Bright Objects. The art exhibit’s theme of lost and found was chosen because it is one of the topics in Van Pelt’s book. The reception will take place in the Library’s Bramlage and Willcoxon Foundation Gallery and all ages are welcome.
