Repairs to Railroad Crossings Create Temporary Closures in the Central Areas of Joplin

(Joplin, MO) – The City of Joplin has partnered with MoDOT Rail Division and the Missouri and Northern Arkansas (MNA) Railroad to improve various crossings within Joplin. Work has begun on the Pennsylvania Avenue and Joplin Avenue crossings near 10th Street.

Later today, Illinois Ave. will be closed at the Railroad crossing near 10th Street and is expected to last through the Monday, March 27. Pennsylvania Avenue will open on March 23 and will be closed again when asphalt work can be completed. Joplin Avenue will remain closed until the asphalt work can be completed. Asphalt work is planned for March 24, weather permitting, which would complete both Pennsylvania and Joplin Avenues, allowing both to reopen. Illinois Avenue is planned to be completed on Monday, March 27 if weather allows.

Following Illinois Avenue crossing being completed, the crossings on Main Street near 10th Street, St. Louis Avenue near Campbell Parkway, and 3rd and 4th Streets near School Avenue will be improved. Each location is expected to be closed two to three days for the work.

Please watch for future announcements regarding these upcoming closures as the schedule is finalized.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in these work areas. The City appreciates your patience as the improvements are completed.
