South Northpark Lane Closes Wednesday, February 15 for Stormwater Improvements

(Joplin, MO) – Starting Wednesday, February 15, South Northpark Lane will be closed from 7th Street to 3rd Street as part of the Canterbury Improvement project.  This roadway will be closed for approximately ten days, weather permitting.

Several stormwater improvements are being made in this area, and this closure allows for the installation of a box culvert under Northpark Lane, along with ditch improvements and new storm sewer along East 4th Street. Due to the complete road closure, there will be no through traffic allowed on this roadway. Area businesses and residents will still have access during this construction phase.

Message boards alerting traffic to this upcoming closure are in place. Drivers are encouraged to observe traffic signage regarding detours and be cautious while traveling the area. Drivers may want to choose alternative routes due to possible delays.

The stormwater improvement project will replace the failing culvert under Northpark Lane, improve ditch conveyance between Canterbury Lane and Northpark Lane, and address street flooding along 4th Street. This stormwater project is funded through the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax that voters initially approved in 2001 and then renewed in both 2011 and 2021.
