(Joplin, MO) – Lafayette House is encouraging individuals to wear purple on October 20, 2022, Wear Purple Day, in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an annual campaign observed in October to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims.
Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects all people regardless of gender, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, or nationality. It is estimated that one in three women and one in four men have suffered in an abusive relationship.
Wear Purple Day began in 2010 and is observed on the Thursday of the third full week in October. The day is promoted to raise awareness of domestic, spousal, or dating violence. Wearing purple on October 20, 2022, not only spreads awareness, but it is also a symbol of support and safety for individuals who are suffering from domestic, spousal or dating violence.
Lafayette House encourages businesses/individuals to wear purple on Wear Purple Day and to post a photo on social media. Please tag the Lafayette House (@LafayetteHouseJoplin) and include the hashtags #DVAM2022 and #PurpleThursday.
