Children’s Miracle Network Launches Campaign with Sam’s Club and Walmart

Celebrating 35 Years of Changing Kids' Health

(Joplin, MO) – For 35 years, Walmart and Sam’s Club have partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN) to change kids’ health to change the future. Associates in stores and clubs across the country have rallied behind the CMN Hospitals campaign year in and year out, raising more than $1 billion over the lifetime of the partnership for children’s hospitals across North America, with $164,184 going to help Freeman Health System in 2021 alone.

“We’re grateful to Sam’s Club and Walmart for making the world a better place to live,” said Paula F. Baker, Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer. “Generous business partners and donors alike make it possible for children with medical needs to receive the care they need. That can include help with medical equipment and prescriptions not covered by insurance, out-of-town travel to see specialists, and service dogs for children with a wide variety of conditions.”

On June 13, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates will kick off this year’s fundraising campaign, benefitting Freeman Health System, a proud member of CMN Hospitals, giving customers and members alike many options to donate at the register or online.

“Each of our 19 local Walmart and Sam’s Club locations is excited for their upcoming campaign, and it is great to see their passion for local kids shine through in their associates,” said Laura Gullett, Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Program Coordinator for Freeman. “The partnership we have with Walmart and Sam’s Club is cherished. Their work over the last 35 years has made a difference in the lives of so many children in our communities. We can’t thank them enough for all they do for local kids.”

For many Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, the fundraising they do for CMN Hospitals is personal, and they strive to make a difference for the children within their community. Sam’s Club #6415 in Joplin raised over $61,000 last year, making them the top Sam’s Club in the nation.

“We do this 100% for the kids,” said Rob Thomas, Club Manager for Sam’s Club #6415. “Every kid deserves a chance to be a kid. We never wait until it affects us to make a difference. Seeing them smile and show us everything is going to be okay is the only motivation we need.”

“Sam’s Club and Walmart associates truly put their hearts into raising support for your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital,” said Baker. “We thank them for their devotion to sick and injured children across the area and making miracles happen year after year!”

Changing kids’ health through quality healthcare isn’t just about treating illness and trauma – it’s about making the child and their family have everything they need to feel stable, comfortable and prepared for what comes next.

“A 35-year partnership is quite rare and special,” said Teri Nestel, President and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “We’re thrilled to be celebrating this significant milestone with Walmart and Sam’s Club, and even more importantly the shared values that bring us together – engaging communities to transform children’s healthcare and ensure healthy tomorrows.”

There are many ways to donate to your local CMN Hospital through the Walmart and Sam’s Club campaign. Customers and members in the Joplin/Pittsburg Market can donate any dollar amount at the register, or simply round-up their purchase to the next dollar and donate the change in-store or while shopping online. You can also donate at helpkidslivebetter.org.

The fundraising campaign starts June 13 and runs through July 10.
