Pro Musica and Post Art Library Present the Opus 76 Quartet

(Joplin, MO) Pro Musica and Post Art Library, in partnership with the Joplin Public Library, will present The Opus 76 Quartet in two free events on Saturday, December 4. The string quartet will perform a 45-minute Bach-a-Bye Baby program geared toward Joplin’s youngest listeners at 10:00 AM, followed by a one-hour performance of classical and contemporary quartet works at 2:00 PM. Both events will be held in the Community Room at the Joplin Public Library, and masks are required for all patrons aged two and older.

The morning Bach-a-Bye Baby program will include classical favorites and author Leia Barrett reading her children’s book entitled, “The Goldilocks Quartet,” which uses musical accompaniment from the string quartet to give a new spin on this classic tale. This event is geared toward nursery and elementary age children and their caretakers, but all are welcome.

The afternoon performance will present a perennial favorite, Dvorak’s “American” quartet, as well as selections from the Danish String Quartet’s Woodworks collection. Opus 76’s performance is the musical feature of Post Art Library’s annual Holiday Tea event. Jill Sullivan says, “Each year the Post Art Library holds the Holiday Tea to honor the legacy of Dr. and Mrs. Post, who loved Christmastime and celebrating it with the community.” This concert is sure to put listeners in a festive mood, and attendees will receive a Post Art Library Holiday Tea Take-Home kit while supplies last.

Each event is limited to a capacity of 100 attendees. Doors will open half an hour before each performance.

Pro Musica is thrilled to begin its 2021-22 season with Opus 76, sharing music and programming that will delight audiences of all ages. “The holidays are a time for people to gather together, and what better way to celebrate the season than to experience beautiful music together as a community,” says Emlyn Johnson, Executive Director of Pro Musica.
