Creative Learning Alliance Distributes Science Kits at the Joplin Public Library

(Joplin, MO) The Creative Learning Alliance (CLA) will be releasing their second set of physics-based experiment kits from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on April 24, 2021 in a partnership with the Children’s Department at Joplin Public Library

The kits are a part of the alliance’s newest project Show Me STEAM: Physics Fun. A committee within the organization has constructed a series of science experiments that can be distributed to area kids. Each kit contains a simple physics experiment designed to get area kids primed for a science center. The kit for April features an experiment called Drop on In; this experiment explores inertia, energy, and Newtonian physics.

“We are putting science experiments in the hands of area kids in order for them to see how much fun [STEAM] learning can be outside of the classroom. We also hope to get them excited about the science center we are bringing to the area where these experiences will be available to them on a much bigger scale,” said Kitty Ward, board member and committee chair.

At the beginning of 2020, the committee had to put mobile exhibits into storage as everything went into lockdown. Despite the pandemic and the frustration of housing the committee’s first large project, they transitioned to drafting ideas that were pandemic-friendly. The physics kits offer CLA the opportunity to connect with the community and share the mission of bringing a science center to Joplin. Kits will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis. The next kit will be released at the end of May.
