Free Virtual Cardiology Seminar

February is American Heart Month, and we aren’t going to let the COVID-19 pandemic keep us from helping the community learn about how to protect their heart health!

Join us on Tuesday, February 23 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm to hear from Mercy Cardiology provider, Matt Wilkes, NP, in a free virtual heart health seminar. This talk will be hosted via WebEx and is open to anyone who would like to join. Contact Angela Kennedy, Mercy Business Development at angela.kennedy@mercy.net or 417.529.8495 for questions and to be added to the WebEx invite.

What’s Your Risk for Cardiovascular Disease?

Mercy offers several different screenings that can help determine if you are at risk for cardiovascular disease. You can register online at mercy.net/ShowMeHeart for any of the following screenings.*

Cardiovascular Screening | $90**

This package screens for blockages in your carotid arteries, which could lead to a stroke; peripheral artery disease; blood sugar; and cholesterol. These simple tests involve an ultrasound on your neck and abdomen as well as a finger stick to collect blood.

Cardiovascular Screenings are conducted at Mercy Clinic Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at 100 Mercy Way, Suite 310 in Joplin.

Calcium Screening | $99**

The calcium heart screening is a simple CT scan of your heart. It can detect calcium buildup in your arteries, heart disease, and your risk for a heart attack.

Calcium Screenings are conducted at Mercy Clinic Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at 100 Mercy Way, Suite 310 in Joplin.

Screenings are recommended for people 45+ with one or more of the following risk factors:

  • Family history of heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • More than ideal body weight
  • Diabetes

* You must be 45+ with one or more risk factors to qualify for a screening.

** Screenings are not covered by health insurance, and payment is due at the time of service.

The safety of our patients and caregivers has been, and always will be, our priority. We follow strict standard for disinfecting; required masking for patients, visitors, and co-workers; and social distancing. Please do your part by following these and other CDC guidelines.

Mercy Offering Livestream Medicare Seminars

Sessions are scheduled now through the end of 2021!

Medicare has many confusing choices, so Mercy locations in the Springfield, Joplin, St. Louis, Oklahoma, and northwest Arkansas areas are offering help to navigate the process.

Medicare – Getting Started is a free educational seminar that will be livestreamed for safety and convenience while social distancing efforts remain in effect. The seminars are for those soon to become eligible for Medicare and replace in-person sessions that were previously scheduled.

Sessions will include information on:

  • Differences between Medicare Parts A and B
  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage)
  • Medicare Part D drug coverage
  • Medicare supplemental insurance plans
  • Medicare premium assistance that may be available if you qualify.

“I believe the education sessions are a great way for people to learn more about Medicare Advantage plans and traditional Medicare,” said Kevin Moran, Arkansas’ Director of Payor Relations and Contracting with Mercy. “There are a lot of options for people eligible for Medicare. The seminars will give participants a chance to gain a better understanding of their choices when it comes to health care, insurance, and the services provided by Mercy.”

Mercy offers the livestream seminars at various times throughout the month, Monday through Saturday, across all service locations. To find and register for a livestream seminar near you, please visit one of the sites listed below:
