The Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area (ESCSWA) is here to help the community by connecting individuals to services that will ultimately help them achieve self-sufficiency. The organization is a charitable non-profit and a designated Community Action Agency, serving primarily Barton, Jasper, Newton, and McDonald Counties in Missouri.

“Our team is passionate about helping people change their lives,” says Debbie Markman, Resource Development Director. “We work with individuals who are seeking assistance with their family’s basic needs.”

Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area offers a wide range of services for low-wage earners and vulnerable populations. Their most popular services include the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, housing, home repair, and weatherization.

ESCSWA also finds other ways to serve the community and is actively involved with several other area non-profits, including: Soroptimist International of Joplin, the Community Housing Resource Board, Joplin Habitat for Humanity, The Homeless Coalition, One Joplin, and Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD).

“Our organization has been the local leader in the nationwide fight against poverty since 1965 and we have enjoyed watching the Joplin community thrive over the years,” concludes Markman.
