Downtown Joplin Alliance to Launch Be Local Passport Program to Encourage Visiting Downtown

(Joplin, MO) – After many events have been cancelled this year, Downtown Joplin Alliance has created a program to launch in Downtown Joplin on September 1. The Be Local Passport Program aims to encourage shoppers to head downtown and support local businesses by offering special deals only available to passport holders.

In an effort to engage these small businesses, organizers have crafted the program to allow for customers to shop and utilize these deals as they’re comfortable to do so, making it less of an event and more of an opportunity for shoppers to plan their own day or evening with family and friends. Nearly 40 businesses in Downtown Joplin have jumped on board to offer one-time deals to Be Local passport holders. Deals range from free items, to discounts, to gift cards.

“This is a great opportunity to come downtown and enjoy your favorite mom and pop shops and explore some new ones. There are lots of options to shop, eat, and play in the passport. Visit on your own time and create your own day or evening,” said Lori Haun, Executive Director of Downtown Joplin Alliance.

Passports and special edition Be Local t-shirts can be ordered online, picked up at select locations, and offers redeemed through November 5. Offers will be one-time use per passport holder and will be stamped upon being redeemed. To purchase a passport and t-shirt, visit downtown-joplin- alliance.square.site.
