(Joplin, MO) – To memorialize the one-year anniversary of the 2011 Joplin tornado, Robert X. Fogarty, accompanied by writer Adam Karlin and production manager Jonny Rosenbloom, visited Joplin to capture images and messages of residents, first responders, volunteers, and city officials affected by the storm.
With handwritten text on their skin, the subjects address the viewer with statements of hope and defiance. The resulting photos were exhibited in Spiva Center for the Arts’ Main Gallery in Dear World, From Joplin with Love in July 2012.
Now, on the ten-year anniversary of the storm, the original exhibit in its entirety will hang in Spiva’s Main Gallery, along with updates on where the subjects are now, how the tornado changed their lives, and how our community recovered. A commemorative book regarding the exhibit is also available.
Spiva Center for the Arts is located at 222 W 3rd Street, Joplin, Missouri. For this special exhibit, Spiva will be open from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm from Thursday, May 20 through Sunday, May 23, 2021 or by appointment. For additional information, please call 417-623-0183.
