(Joplin, MO) – The Downtown Joplin Alliance is wrapping up final details to launch their annual window competition in Downtown Joplin on November 19.
Each year, at the start of the holiday season, businesses in the downtown district are invited to deck their windows and compete against their neighbors. The theme for this year is Winter Wonderland and offers three categories to vote on: Best Use of Theme, Best Use of Lights, and Most Original. Awards will be handed out to winners at City Hall on December 22.
The competition this year will see the return of past competitors and winners such as Blue Moon Boutique and Urban Art Gallery, but will also welcome newcomers such as Viola Salon and Fortune Barbershop. Voting will be done digitally with QR codes; participating businesses will have a poster in their window designating them as a competitor.
On the evening of November 19, the tree will be lit in Spiva Park, several businesses will be extending hours to promote holiday shopping, and select food trucks will be set up. Afterwards, Paranormal Science Lab will be presenting a walking tour through downtown to tell the history and ghost tales of Downtown Joplin.
Downtown Joplin Alliance Executive Director, Lori Haun, states, “It’s always great fun to have some friendly competition. We hope folks come down, walk around and enjoy our beautiful downtown during the holidays. And maybe do a little shopping while they are at it!”
