(Diamond, MO) – Prairie Day is coming on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Missouri! There’s something for everyone during this popular event, and Prairie Day is free of charge!
Venture back in time to the late-1800s and explore life on the Missouri prairie of George Washington Carvers childhood. Enjoy historic skills demonstrations in trades such as basket-weaving, blacksmithing, spinning, Dutch-oven cooking, and more. Guests can also expect hands-on educational activities for kiddos, interactive exhibits, booths run by community exhibitors, a chance to earn a Junior Ranger Badge, concessions provided by the Diamond Lions Club, and music and storytelling.
The music and storytelling schedule is as follows:
- Music tent
- 10:30 am – Pickers Post Band
- 11:30 am – Lem Sheppard
- 12:30 pm – Storytelling by Greg Bilby (Cherokee stories, traditions, and heritage)
- 1:30 pm – Buffalo Creek Incident Band
- 2:15 pm – Lem Sheppard
- Moses Carver House
- 11:30 am – Buffalo Creek Incident Band
- 1:00 pm – Pickers Post Band
Held in conjunction with Gem City Days in Diamond, Prairie Day commemorates George Washington Carver’s childhood environment through storytelling, music, interactive exhibits, and historic demonstrations. Volunteers in the parks make this event possible.
