JOPLIN, MO. – Joplin Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Melissa Estes as the next assistant
principal of Dover Hill Elementary effective July 2026.
Estes brings a 20-year background in education, and currently serves as an ESL teacher at Columbian Elementary in Carthage, where she has taught for nearly 10 years. Prior to her time there, she also worked as a cheer coach for both Carthage High School and Carthage Junior High, and as a first grade teacher at Steadley Elementary.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri Southern State University in 2005, Estes completed the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Certification in 2012, also at MSSU. She completed a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University in 2019.
“We are very excited to have Mrs. Estes joining us at Dover Hill next year,” said principal Dr. Jason Weaver. “We’re looking forward to how her enthusiasm, genuine care for students, and desire to support teachers will benefit the students, staff, and families of our school!”
“I am very excited to serve as Assistant Principal at Dover Hill next school year,” said Estes. “I’m passionate about helping to create a school environment where everyone feels supported, valued, and encouraged to grow. Although I know I’ve got big shoes to fill, I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into the role and look forward to being a part of the Dover Hill team!”
