(Joplin, MO) – Ozark Center unveiled its all-new PRISM location, located at 3230 Wisconsin Avenue in Joplin.
PRISM, which stands for Psychiatric Renewal Through Innovative Solutions and Methods, offers pioneering, innovative approaches to treating clients with treatment-resistant depression and other indications.
During an open house hosted by Ozark Center, invited guests toured the new location, spoke with PRISM providers, and learned about therapies that will be available there.
“Interventional psychiatry is a rapidly evolving subspecialty within psychiatry that focuses on advanced, device-based and pharmacological treatments for mental health conditions that are resistant to traditional therapies,” said Ozark Center Chief Executive Officer Vicky Mieseler. “PRISM offers procedures that go beyond standard medication management.”
Initially, the new PRISM facility will continue to offer Spravato® and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), both of which are FDA-approved and known for their high success rates among patients for whom previous treatment options have been unsuccessful.
SPRAVATO® is the first FDA-approved nasal spray specifically for adults with treatment-resistant depression. Available with a prescription, SPRAVATO® is used along with an oral antidepressant to treat treatment-resistant depression, as well as major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions.
TMS, also used to treat depression, utilizes a highly targeted pulsed magnetic eld, similar in type and strength to that produced by an MRI machine. TMS stimulates nerves in the part of the brain thought to control mood, making long-term remission from severe depression possible.
“Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) may be beneficial for individuals that have tried psychotherapy and medications but haven’t seen results,” Mieseler said. “This cutting-edge technology is a proven and effective treatment with minimal side effects that offers life-changing results for more than 75 percent of individuals with treatment-resistant depression.”
Advantages for providers and Ozark Center clients include:
- Expedited care, meaning patients are contacted and scheduled within 72 hours and will no longer need to wait for months to experience relief;
- Fast, simple referrals that simplify coordination of care between PRISM clients and their primary care providers; and
- Prompt, consistent follow-up with the patient’s primary care provider is a top priority.
“SPRAVATO® is proving to be a transformative standalone option where individuals may experience improvements in depressive symptoms very quickly,” Mieseler said. “Treatment-resistant depression is complicated and for too long we have had only a few options to offer individuals that aren’t responding to antidepressants.”
