Doctors have stated that administering CPR outside the hospital can save thousands of lives annually, but about half of Americans say they don’t know how to do it. To help area residents, CPR training is now available through the Joplin Health Department.
Three CPR classes are offered on a rotating basis each month to help citizens at all skill levels:
- Friends and Family® CPRis a great class for new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others.
- AHA HeartCode® BLS Skills Checkoff is the hands-on skills session check-off to complete the certification for HeartCode® BLS.
- AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED coursetrains participants to give CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
Classes are held in the WIC classroom at the Health Department (321 E. 4th Street). Below is the class schedule:
- Wednesday, October 15 — AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED @ 1:30 to 5:00 pm
- Wednesday, October 29 — Friends and Family CPR @ 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and BLS Skills Check Off @ 2:00 to 3:00 pm
- Wednesday, November 5 — BLS Skills Check Off @ 10:00 to 11:00 am and AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED @ 1:30 to 5:00 pm
- Wednesday, December 3 — AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED @ 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and BLS Skills Check Off @ 3:00 to 4:00 pm
