City of Joplin Encourages Citizens to Get Involved by Joining City Board or Commission

The City of Joplin invites citizens to apply to serve on a City Board or Commission. Serving on a City Board or Commission is a great way to help shape local policies and contribute to your community! Most members serve as volunteers and enjoy benefits like meeting fellow residents, learning about city operations, and influencing Joplin’s future.

The City has over 20 boards and commissions, each focused on a specific area — from planning to public safety to cultural affairs. Members assess needs, review policies, make recommendations, and provide input on city projects. Applications are accepted year-round. Applicants must be registered voters in Missouri, and some boards may have additional specific requirements. Appointments are made by the City Council twice a year or as needed.

Appointments to Boards and Commissions are scheduled for consideration at the meeting on Monday, June 16, 2025. If interested in applying for consideration at this time, please submit an application by 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Applications made following this time will be held for the next time the Council hears new Board appointments.  Applications are held for a year.
