(Joplin, MO) – Joplin Schools is excited to announce that senior members of the Joplin High School (JHS) Constitution Team competed at the Missouri Bar’s Show Me the Constitution State Competition earlier this month. They earned first place with an outstanding combined score of 1000/1080!
The phenomenal team consists of:
- Adam Badr
- Lilly Kate Benfield
- Christian Cavener
- Duncan Fogarty
- Parker Hinman
- Josiah Hazelwood
- Ty Matthiesen
- Kendall Ramsey
- Kate Tyson
Students experience firsthand civic discourse about today’s complex constitutional questions. During the competition, the team took on the role of experts testifying about legal, political, and public policy issues before six mock Congressional Judiciary Committees. The format brings constitutional principles to life while developing critical thinking and civil debate skills.
Constitution Team coach and JHS teacher William Keczkemethy noted the team’s appreciation to former JHS State Champs Scott Vorhees, Barry Sanborn, and Grayden Cravens, as well as Judge Tim Perigo, for taking the time to visit with and work with the team in preparation for competition. Further guidance came from JHS staff members Andrew Seavy, Dustin Dixon, Jay Stubs, Jon Woods, Justin Larsen, Gabe Cravens and Don Archer.
The team was also congratulated in-person by the president of the Missouri Bar Association, Shelly Dryer, in a small ceremony.
