(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library is excited to host drummer and storyteller Kenya Ajanaku in conjunction with its annual Black History Fair. The fair will take place in the Library’s Community Room on Saturday, February 1 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Kenya Ajanaku is a nationally known drummer and storyteller whose talents have captivated his audiences for over 26 years. His signature program, “Rhythms and Folklore of Africa,” is a unique combination of storytelling, drumming, and dance. Mr. Ajanaku’s performance will begin at 11:15 am.
Just before and immediately following this presentation, attendees may visit interactive displays and booths from the Library, community members, and local organizations. Participating organizations include the Emancipation Committee, George Washington Carver National Monument, EastTown Dreams District, Joplin NAACP, and more.
“At this year’s Black History Fair, we are thrilled to feature a vibrant drummer and storyteller, as well as provide a space for community organizations to share their resources and connect with attendees,” said Library Director Jeana Gockley. “Thanks to our combined effort it is an event that brings people together to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.”
The event is free and open to the public, no Library card required. All ages are welcome to attend.
