(Joplin, MO) – On Friday, July 12, a group of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States (RMHC) staff, board members, and fry-loving volunteers took a field trip to 19 of the McDonald’s restaurants in the four-state area to celebrate National Fry Day and the Penny for a Pound program. At each restaurant, the RMHC representatives thanked crew members for their hard work and explained how their daily efforts impact families with sick children.
There are multiple ways the four-state McDonald’s restaurants support the Charity in Joplin: Round-Up for RMHC, Penny Per Happy Meal, donation boxes, Shamrock Shakes, and Penny for a Pound. The Penny for a Pound program began in 2018, when local owner/operators agreed to donate one penny to RMHC for every pound of fries they sell year-round. Since the program began, more than $130,000 has been donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States.
The Charity took to social media to tell the community about a National Fry Day promotion through the McDonald’s app. National Fry Day was July 13, and customers who used the app could receive a free fry of any size. But it’s not too late to join the celebration — you can order free World Famous Fries with a purchase through the McDonald’s app every Friday.
“McDonald’s fries are worth celebrating — not only because they are delicious, but because every time you order them, you help give a family with a sick child the support and relief they need,” said Lori Jones, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States. “Next time you crave your McDonald’s favorites, you can feel good knowing that meaningful donations are going toward local families.”

About Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States:
Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States has served our communities since 1996 through its mission, which is to create, find, and support programs that directly support the health and well-being of children and their families. That mission is executed through its cornerstone program, Ronald McDonald House, and the Ronald McDonald Family Room, located at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Our House provides temporary lodging for families of seriously ill children (ages 0-21) and ill expectant mothers, while our Family Room serves as a small oasis for families of pediatric patients just steps away from their child’s hospital room. For the more than 200 families that Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States serves annually, we give a family with a sick child what they need most – each other.
