Joplin Workshops Inc. and outgoing board chairman, Tony Robyn, are pleased to announce Cynthia Olmstead has been elected to the position of Board President. Robyn previously served in the role since 2020. Olmstead has served on the board nearly 10 years and is currently vice president, branch banking group manager, Guaranty Bank in Joplin.
Robyn noted Olmstead’s experience serving on the board and in other community leadership roles is a major asset to the organization. “When we discussed who would best serve the organization and its next phase of development, Cynthia was seen as the perfect fit. She is passionate in her service and purpose to the workshop and nursery, our employees and clients, and the Joplin community.” Joplin Workshops recently acquired Ozark Nursery as another business opportunity for their clients and the community. Olmstead began her new chair role on November 27, 2023.
Olmstead stated, “I am excited for the opportunity and very honored with the confidence and support of the board and employees. The workshop and employees are so important to our efforts of providing meaningful employment, and services to area businesses.”

About Joplin Workshops, Inc.:
The Joplin Workshops was started in 1966 by parents and business leaders wanting to provide opportunities for people with disabilities, but eager and able to work in local industries with a variety of service needs. The workshop operation currently has 48 employees, and 15 of them have already been doing work at the nursery. Workshop employees contract with area industries to provide a variety of services including light assembly of products, packaging and shipping materials, and collating forms and mailers. The addition of the nursery operation offers additional employment opportunities while providing contracted landscape and nursery services to the area.
