(Neosho, MO) – Crowder College’s Upward Bound (UB) Summer Academy programs hosted a showcase symposium on Thursday, June 29.
Research projects ranged from crime scene investigation to chickens to graphic design with 16 different classes in all. Students in the program take classes that give them an overview of the high school math and English classes they will have when they return to high school. The students then select a research project based on their interests and the possible career opportunities they wish to pursue.
Upward Bound serves 300 students from 37 high schools in southwest Missouri. This summer, there are nearly 250 students participating in the summer academy. The program provides on campus living similar to a college experience for five weeks and concludes with a cultural trip. This year the participating students will travel to Chicago, where they will tour an art museum and universities.
UB is a federally funded Trio program that serves first generation students in preparation for college.
