(Joplin, MO) – Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School (TJ) is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Jeffrey W. Park as School President. As School President, Jeff will be responsible for all aspects of TJ’s operations. Jeff assumed his position on May 1, 2023. He moved to Joplin from Boulder Colorado and brings more than 25 years of experience as an educator and leader in both PK–12 schools and several nonprofits serving youth. He spent the first five years of his career as a high-school Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher, and then went on to be the founding principal and leader of a charter school before moving into the nonprofit sector serving in various leadership roles for the next decade. Most recently (since 2018), Jeff has served as Executive Director for a group of 17 charter schools in Colorado serving several thousand students. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Lehigh University and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Denver.
“I’m honored and humbled to have been selected for this important new role. Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School is such a special place both because of its academic traditions and the community that surrounds it,” Jeff said. “Sarah and I are so thrilled to bring our boys into the TJ family, and we look forward to making Joplin our new home.”
Founded in 1993, Thomas Jefferson is celebrating its 30th year of operation and three decades of delivering educational opportunity to students in the Four-States area. Jeff joins TJ — one of the top-ranked private Pre-K through 12th grade schools in the state — at an exciting time when the school is expanding its enrollment, working to become even more accessible, and looking forward to the next 30 years of operation. The school’s mission-driven, classical liberal arts, college prep program has stood the test of time, and Jeff’s leadership will ensure TJ’s program and its world-class faculty continue the tradition of academic excellence.
John Sweeny, Chairman of TJ’s Board of Trustees, welcomed Jeff’s appointment, saying “We know the future holds great promise and opportunity for TJ and our students. We look forward to building on the School’s 30-year legacy. Jeff’s appointment as School President marks the start of an important new chapter in TJ’s history and we are confident his Mission-aligned leadership, integrity, experience, and vision will take TJ to new levels of success and accomplishment.”
