(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge (JMCC) is an Olympic-style charitable event in which companies compete in various physical and recreational events. The JMCC aims to promote wellness in the community and build connections in the workplace.
The search for sponsors has begun. In January, registration will open, followed by the Games starting in May, and ending with a Closing Celebration in July. Aside from the personal benefits to everyone involved, the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Missouri and SET Ranch & Prosperity Club, local charitable organizations, will benefit financially.
The JMCC is looking for sponsors interested in promoting wellness in the community and supporting local charities. “We are so excited to partner with SET Ranch & Prosperity Club to bring back the Corporate Challenge. We are excited to get people active and raise some funds for the Boys & Girls Club! The funds will help us with some of our transportation needs. It takes a lot to get over 500 kids per day to the Club sites,” Rhonda Gorham, Chief Executive Officer for the Boys and Girls Club of SWMO.
Corporate Challenge is familiar to the area, although it’s been nearly a decade since the last event was held. “The Games will develop a competitive spirit in each participating company. They will help to motivate employees year-round to make better health choices combating physical inactivity, which The Ozarks Health Commission identified as one of the critical social determinants of health issues in the Joplin Community,” says Serita Eldridge, Program Coordinator.
Cavanaugh Studyvin, Executive Director for the Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge will be a fantastic opportunity to bring together businesses in the region through friendly competition and networking opportunities for everyone involved. An added bonus is that it will benefit two great organizations that do so much for our community.”
This year’s event will be held at various locations throughout the metro and include 14 pointed Challenges. There are challenges for the athletic employees itching for a chance to display their prowess and ones for those not as athletically inclined. Employees can even volunteer to assist with games to earn points for their company. “I’m excited that one of the games is a scavenger hunt that will take competitors to different cities,” says Studyvin.
“I am especially excited about the Slim Down Challenge, the eSports Tournament, and the Scavenger Hunt. These events set us apart from other Corporate Challenges across the country,” says Eldridge.
Employees from companies in the Joplin Metro make up the volunteer Steering Committee that governs the Games. They provide valuable input from the companies’ perspectives, making the Games the best they can be.
SET Ranch & Prosperity Club will use proceeds to support low-cost and free programs for mental health, fitness, and finance, as well as recreation and entertainment designed to reduce and prevent poverty, obesity, and suicidal ideation in low-income families and people of color.
Up-to-date information will be available on Facebook, Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge, and the website jmcorporatechallenge.com. If you are interested in sponsoring the Games, contact Serita Eldridge at aspaceforusjoplin@gmail.com.
