(Neosho, MO) – Struggle for Statehood, a traveling exhibit created by the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy and Missouri Humanities Council, partners in the Bicentennial Alliance, is on display inside Crowder College’s Longwell Museum in Neosho until Friday, September 25.
On Monday, September 28, the exhibit will be moved to Crowder College’s McDonald County campus and remain there until the end of the semester. In spring 2027, it will move to the Joplin Advanced Training & Workforce Center and Cassville locations. (Dates to be determined.)
The exhibit chronicles the three years when Missouri’s admission into the Union was fiercely debated and reexamines the lasting significance of the conflict on a local and national scale.
Struggle for Statehood explores Missouri’s journey to statehood and why its application for admission into the United States sparked a national crisis that almost destroyed the very union Missouri sought to join. Audiences will learn about the significance of the “Missouri Crisis” and its lasting implications on our state and nation.
The Longwell Museum on Crowder’s Neosho campus is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and holidays.
