Saturday, September 19 | 7:00 pm | Tickets: $60 (plus fees) | Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex
Handpicked by Billy Joel, Michael Cavanaugh has earned an international following for his electrifying performances, powerhouse vocals, and extraordinary piano playing. Best known for starring in the hit Broadway musical Movin’ Out, Cavanaugh delivered more than 1,000 performances in the lead role and received both Grammy and Tony Award nominations for his work.
Music has been central to Cavanaugh’s life since childhood. He began playing piano at age seven, formed his first band at 10, and spent years honing his craft in clubs and piano bars before landing a career-changing engagement at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. It was there that Billy Joel discovered him during a live performance in 2001, ultimately inviting him to collaborate on what became the Broadway sensation Movin’ Out.
In The Music of Billy Joel, Elton John, & More, Cavanaugh brings two of pop-rock’s most iconic catalogs to life with electrifying energy and world-class musicianship. Audiences can expect beloved hits spanning decades, from soaring ballads to arena-rock anthems, all delivered with the charisma and showmanship that have made him a favorite with symphony orchestras and performing arts audiences nationwide.
In addition to his live performances, Cavanaugh has released several acclaimed recordings, including his original album The Way I Hear It and the holiday collection Christmas. He continues to tour extensively with both his band and symphony productions, delivering unforgettable concerts that celebrate the timeless music and enduring legacy of rock-and-roll’s greatest piano legends.
