JOPLIN, MO. – Enrollment is now open for 2026 Summer School opportunities in Joplin Schools for any student entering PreK through 12 grade. Enrollment will be online, and can be accessed at JoplinSchools.org/Summer or through an existing PowerSchool ParentPortal account.

Elementary Summer School classes will be held this year at Dover Hill Elementary (for students in Cecil Floyd, Dover Hill or Jefferson zones), Irving Elementary (for students in Irving, Stapleton or Kelsey Norman zones), and Soaring Heights Elementary (for students in Eastmorland, McKinley, Royal Heights, or Soaring Heights zones). Middle school classes will be held at East Middle School. This year’s Summer School dates are June 1 through June 30.

Elementary and Middle School students will participate in several field trip opportunities during the summer session. Elementary students will engage in “summer camp” style experiences offered each day while also being exposed to core subjects as a way to supplement or boost learning from the regular academic year.

District Summer School director Katy Booher noted that planning efforts have focused on addressing the needs of any summer student, no matter their reason for attending.

“We have highly engaging learning experiences for students looking for opportunities to go deeper with their learning,” said Booher. “We’ll also offer supplemental reading services for students who need additional support over the summer, experiential learning to help students develop problem solving skills, and several traditional learning experiences to sharpen academic skills. We have something to offer every Eagle!”

At Joplin High School, incoming 9-12 graders can enroll in Online Health, Online Personal Finance, Summer Weights/PE, Credit Recovery, Musical Theatre, and Extended School Year.

Middle School students who sign up to take Summer Weights/PE can do so as a stand-alone course or as part of their enrollment in the full middle school summer program.

“For our JHS Eagles, we offer credit and non-credit courses to meet a variety of student needs,” said Booher. “Students can complete coursework over the summer to allow for more flexibility in their schedules during the school year. Many students who participate in extracurricular activities during the school year choose to take advantage of summer credit coursework. ”

Students who do not attend Joplin Schools during the regular school year are invited to enroll and participate free of charge. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants. Limited transportation services will be available to Joplin Schools students.

More information is available by contacting Joplin Schools at 417.625.5200. Instructions for enrollment can be found at JoplinSchools.org/Summer. Enrollments will be accepted until June 1. Students who enroll in summer school will receive more information about their specific summer programs in May.
